About this Item

SIGNED BY HUTCHINS on the title page beneath his name as follows: "Ross E. Hutchins". Large 8vo. (25 cm.) [10]1-205p. Profusely (!) illustrated with black and white captioned photos by the author. A Selected Bibliography and Index. Endpapers are black and white drawings of the head and mandibles of various ants--quite striking. Green cloth with black letters on the spine and a vignette in black on the front cover of an ant carry a larva. Some wear to extremities with one corner just barley rubbed through, a bit of fading along the edges, cloth clean and bright, black letters and decorations bright, else very good to near fine with no internal markings. Dust jacket is shelfworn but most all there and not price-clipped. Born in Montana, Ross E. Hutchins majored in biological sciences at Montana State College and later received a Ph.D. in Zoology and entomology from Iowa State College. He was Professor Entomology at Mississippi State University. His numerous articles and pictures have appeared in many encyclopedias, books and magazines, including National Geographic, Life, and Natural History. Besides being a noted entomologist, Hutchins is also and expert nature photographer. THE ANT REALM is a wonderful book to introduce young people to the ant world. The pictures alone are worth the price of the book!. Bookseller Inventory # 008234
