About this Item

First Edition Thus. The second edition of this collection, but first by this publisher and first produced with the publisherís wish that it be considered a small memorial to the author who had only recently been killed. Small 8vo, original printerís wrappers lettered in black and red, in glassine. 81 pp. A well preserved copy, the paper used in producing it prone to toning, the wrappers with a few minor closed tears but with no loss, wear and splitting at the spine. EARLY PRINTING AND A FIRST THUS. A posthumous collection of poems by the emblematic member of the Generation of Ď27. Lorca was presumed shot by Nationalist militia a year prior to this publication, only days after the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War. A poet, prose writer, dramatist and artist, Lorca had won international recognition with the influential group of poets that arose in Spanish literary circles between 1923 and 1927, essentially out of a shared desire to experience and work with avant-garde forms of art and poetry. His experiences traveling through impoverished rural Spain and New York, (particularly amongst the disenfranchised African American population), transformed him into a passionate advocate of the theatre of social action.[.
