About this Item

New York: Alfred A Knopf, 1987. A fine copy in quarter-backed black cloth and tan boards with silver spine lettering in a fine, illustrated dustwrapper. Simpson's bold signature is found on the title page. The story is told from the point of a view of a 11-year old daughter trying to grow up and contend with an impossible mother, a born narcissist with few redeeming qualities. The book was a great success when it appeared, a winner of the Whiting Prize for first novels and receiving some continuing interest because of the author's real-life connection to the late founder of Apple, Steve Jobs, who was her older brother. This, Simpson's first book, was the basis for a highly popular film starring Susan Sarandon and Natalie Portman. Bookseller Inventory # 2135
