Book Description London: William Tweedie and Manchester: United Kingdom Alliance, 1857. 8vo. (3)-320 pp., bound without the half title. Contemporary brown half calf over marbled boards, spine with raised bands, gilt lettered tan label, old ownership inscription to the front pastedown. A very good copy. The author was a leading figure in the temperance movement and wrote widely on the subject. This essay won the first prize in the essay competition held by, to give them their full name, the United Kingdom Alliance for the Suppression of the Traffic in all Intoxicating Liquors.
