One of 325 copies printed by The Grabhorn Press, San Francisco for The Book Club of California. Hand-set Lutetia type. Blue boards with tan cloth back. Blue labels printed in gold on front cover and spine. Illustrated with eitht full-page plates of Coit drawings of San Francisco and Benicia (1849-1850) reproduced from originals in the Bancroft Library. 9" x 13 1/2". After an interesting life as a businessman, mariner and banker, Coit came to San Francisco in 1848 as an exchange banker for Howland and Aspinwall. He lived and worked on Portsmouth Square, writing these letters home to his family and sketching his surroundings with great talent, demonstrated by the plates herein.
