This appealing set of little books (approx. 4.5" x 6.5") still looks quite nice sitting on a shelf. It looks like an old set in reasonably good condition which is precisely what it is. Brownish cloth-covered hardbacks with gilt lettering and ornamentation on the spines the tips of which are slightly worn. These 127 year-old books have been read and have been somewhat used. Which is to say, this is not a pristine, unblemished set. For example, the end papers of Volume I were "decorated" by a child with a pencil and the double frontispiece of Volume VI is detached. There are other minor flaws too numerous to mention. Each volume contains several short pieces by Alcott which explains the "etc." in the titles as follows: I - MY BOYS, etc. II - SHAWL-STRAPS. III - CUPID AND CHOW-CHOW, etc. IV - MY GIRLS, etc. V - JIMMY'S CRUISE IN THE PINAFORE, etc. VI - AN OLD-FASHIONED THANKSGIVING, etc. You will note that Volume II lacks "etc." in its title, yet it contains several travel pieces: Brittany, France, Switzerland, Italy, and London. Each volume has the date 1888 on the title page whereas the copyright dates are earlier. Each volume is intact, reasonably tight and somewhat used. Priced accordingly. Bookseller Inventory #
