First edition (not stated) DATED, INSCRIBED, AND SIGNED BY COMPILER KAY BOYLE. 264 pages. Hardcover: H 24cm x L 16cm. Dust jacket rubbed with nicks, bumping/creasing, and several short tears at edges; dj now presented in a mylar Brodart protector. White cloth, light foxing spots to boards, light bumping at spine heel and front board's bottom left corner. Boyle's seven-line ink inscription on the half-title page: "January 1971 | very warm good wishes to | Rhoda Ellison, and | to the dangling participle | (with my apologies) | Kay Boyle | Hollins College." Interior pages are otherwise clean. Binding retains some crispness. Else a very good+ copy in a very good dust jacket. Acquired from the estate of Dr. Rhoda Coleman Ellison (1904-2005) who taught at Montgomery, Alabama's Huntingdon College from 1930 to 1971 and chaired the English department from 1959 to 1971 and was thereafter appointed professor emerita.
