"Dear Sir: Your letter of Jan. 15 is rec'd. I have no such picture as I would prefer to send you, but I enclose one, the best I have at my own disposal at present. Your wish to have it gives me great pleasure. Yours truly, G.W. Cable." Clark was the son of Singer Sewing Machine founder Edward Clark. An heir and philanthropist, Clark was a supporter of gay men in the strict Victorian era. Although married with children, for 19 years Clark's closest companion was Norwegian tenor Lorentz Severin Skougaard. Clark, who is listed in WikiQueer as a notable lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender parent, died on April 8, 1896.
