Housed in recent cloth clamshell box with calf spine label. $1,000. * Second edition. Text in Law-French. With a table. The Liber Assisarum is a selection of reports from the Year Books covering regnal years 1-50 of Edward III (1327-77). The contents are arranged alphabetically by topic. "The Book of Assizes (.) is of great authority in law; and so called because it principally contains proceedings upon Writs of Assize of Novel Disseisin, which in those days was festinum et freems renaedium. 'Tis often quoted and referred to by most of our ancient writers. (.) The questions are here discussed with more precision and clearness, and they contain more of those points of law that have survived to the present times. In regard to precision and clearness, all the reports of this reign excel those of the preceding; but the merit of these [reports] is of a peculiar kind, and has a very different appearance from what has in later times been considered as excellent in this way" (Rastell). Most of the annotations appear to be citations to cases in the Year Books. OCLC locates 5 copies, the English Short-Title Catalogue locates 6 in the British Isles, 6 in North America and 1 in Australia. Rastell, John, Preface to London, 1679, Livre des Assises et Pleas del' Corone cited in Marvin, Legal Bibliography 754. English Short-Title. Bookseller Inventory # 65134
