First American edition. Thick 8vo in original plain calf, spine lined in gilt and with gilt lettered title label. 603 pp. plus 12 page subscriber's list. Running title: ".to Which Are Prefixed, The Living Testimonies Of The Church Of God, and Faithful Martyrs, in Different Ages of the World; and The Corrupt Fruits of The False Church, In The Time Of The Apostacy." Binding is intact though well worn particularly at one front corner where the leather is worn away; cracking to the spine strip amd shalow loss haed edge of spine. The text block is firm and complete and though somewhat embrowned, generally free from any serious defects aside from some modereate staining to the edegs of the first few leaves. The printer's preface notes that this is the First American Edition of the work and while drawn significantly for Ellis Hookes 1719 work as well as from Southwel's "New Book of Martyrs", ".this hisotry is brought down to a later period than any work of the kind.[and] embracestransactions and events that have occurred in America, and particularly in New England; exhibiting the operation of a sanguine and persecuting spirit, which prevailed in the early settlement of that country, and by which the religious people called Quakers greatly suffered.,".
