EVANS 27659. AUSTIN 1631. Rush's historic account of the Yellow Fever epidemic which he viewed as caused by unsanitary conditions. Physician and patriot, the young Rush befriended Benjamin Franklin in London while doing advanced medical training. He was appointed the first professor of chemistry in the colonies at the College of Philadelphia. He was a leader in calling for Independence and a signer of the Declaration of Independence. He was appointed Surgeon-General of the Armies of the Middle Department serving until he resigned in a disagreement over medical conditions. Bookseller Inventory # 49515
