Book Description Pr. by Joseph Crukshank, Philadelphia, 1779. First and only Evans-era edition. John Churchman (1705?75) was a Quaker minister. Recounts his extensive travels and that of Joseph White, another Quaker minister. With "A testimony from the Falls Monthly Meeting in Bucks County, concerning our friend Joseph Smith" on pp. 250?256. Early provenance: Title-page inscribed "John Moore's book" at top and crossed out, rendering it somewhat illegible. Facing fly-leaf inscribed "James Moore his book" with recto inscribed "Sarah Moore's Property granted at the divide or division of her Father's Books 1822"; with extensive reading notes covering one of the back fly-leaves. 8vo. vii, [1], 256 pp. Evans 16223; Sabin 13025; ESTC W36517; Hildeburn 3860. Original sheep, unornamented, with five raised bands on the spine; moderate rubbing, especially to spine extremities and at cover edges; joints starting at the very top and bottom of spine, but covers still secure and sturdy; spine with tiny wormhole. Light waterstaining in margins of early leaves and a few scattered spots. A little bit of worming at top margin of first several pages, not touching text. A couple of page corners folded.
