About this Item

Charles Scribner's Sons, 1950, with date listed on both title and copyright pages. Hard Cover. Book Condition: Near Fine, no jacket. First Edition, first printing, Second state, with "Papadopoli" on page 21. This copy, the author's final novel during his lifetime, is bound in black boards with gilt lettering on the spine and a gilt facsimile signature on the front. Gilt lettering on spine is slightly faded; owner's name on front endpaper. Scribners "A" and colophon on the copyright page. Thin remainder line on bottom edge near the spine. Generally regarded as one of Hemingway's least impressive novels, it is full of masculine bombast and improbable scenes. But it's still Ernest Hemingway, and it's valuable as an insight into the man as well as a bad novel by a great writer. Bookseller Inventory # 160204
