A very rare volume of laws printed in Charleston, South Carolina Laws include acts to tax transient persons, revisions to the election laws, regulation of auctions, prevention of the spread of "malignant and contagious Distempers," and an act "for the more effectual Relief of insolvent Debtors." The official printer of South Carolina at this time, Peter Timothy, was the son of the proto-printer of the state, Lewis Timothy, and (as recorded in an article by Douglas C. McMurtrie) was a regular correspondent with Benjamin Franklin, who had helped his father establish the press.
