About this title

Synopsis:

Do you know what to do if your child or a member of your family is a drug addict or alcoholic? There?s an Addict in My Closet is the culmination of a medical doctor's twenty-six year journey treating patients affected by the disease of chemical dependency. Dr. Munden?s eighteen-year personal struggle with addiction in conjunction with his professional experience treating the disease offers unique insight into the mind and reality of chemical dependency. The book is written to family members and individuals who struggle with this disease. It challenges our medical and legal systems to step up and acknowledge an epidemic that is destroying our society. There's an Addict in My Closet offers a realistic and clear understanding of the disease, how to identify it, and guidelines for treating it. Dr. Munden offers hope through his own life story and the successes of countless patients. The far-reaching affects of addiction are immeasurable and make Dr. Munden's book a must read for anyone.

About the Author:

Dr. Munden has been practicing medicine for thirty-five years. Twenty-six of those years have been spent in the field of Addiction Medicine. He has delivered hundreds of presentations in his career to a wide variety of audiences. He has spoken to audiences at county medical societies, in-patient and out patient treatment programs, university students and small community groups who requested a speaker. Other than small honorariums, he has volunteered his services because of his passion to help. He has given more than twenty years of volunteer service to the county and state organizations that help impaired physicians. He was a drug addict for eighteen years, from a teenager to age thirty-five. He has experienced what he has taught others about. He admits, his brutal honesty about this disease may have created some controversy, but he is not in the field to impress anyone. He has been interviewed for publications in the Texas Medical Association and the Texas Veterinary Associations magazines along with articles in the Austin American Statesman at various times over the years. He has testified in several court cases but has turned down the majority of requests. His experience he says cannot be bought. He is currently certified by the American Society of Addiction Medicine and is a fellow of the American Board of Addiction Medicine. He is also a Medical Review Officer for drug screens and a trained and experienced interventionist. Dr. Munden lives in Austin, Texas with his wife Hannah and their four dogs, chickens, and parrot, Charlie.
