Lacking any original wraps that may have been issued. 25 pp., plus a page listing members of the 'government of the society,' and including a brief financial account. An address promoting the nature and cause of charity, especially relating to the funds needed for fire fighting in cities, using references to mythology and ancient history, as well as referring to some laws restricting the use of wood in building structures in cities. The Massachusetts Charitable Fire Society was founded in 1792 as a philanthropic organization designed to address the needs of fire safety. John Quincy Adams was the sixth president of the United States, as well as serving in many other capacities in state and federal governments. Bears a gift/presentation inscription to Benjamin Gleason from Shubal Bell. GOOD condition. Remains of leather along the spine. Minor toning.
