About this Item

Present here are a series of addresses to the citizenry from the Philadelphia Society for the Promotion of National Industry (nos. I-XIII and I of the "New Series"). With the exception of nos. XII and XIII, which were by Dr. Samuel Jackson, these important essays all flow from the creative and cantankerous genius of Mathew Carey. They address then-pressing topics: tariffs, protectionism, development of domestic industry, and European foreign policy. 8vo. 116, [2 (blank)] pp. Shaw & Soemaker 49096. Removed from a nonce volume. One corner and upper margin of title-page chipped away, without loss to printing. Edges and corners tattered, rough, brittle. Foremost and rearmost pages browned, foxed, and soiled. Intermittent spots of foxing in middle section of text block. Ink inscription in upper margin of p. 37. Bookseller Inventory # 4055
