About this Item

New York and London octavo, 58 and 43 p. ***Content: The Association of American Geologists and Naturalists was founded in 1840 at a meeting in Philadelphia. Members included the most influential American scientists. In 1848, the Association was renamed the “American Association for the Advancement of Science”. At their fifth meeting, Henry D. Rogers was the keynote speaker, and his address describes the existing condition of geologic research in the United States. Topics covered by Rogers include a summary of recent geological publications, a survey of the knowledge of American geologic formations, and an extended discussion of glacial geology. The appended abstracts of the meeting include important contributions in paleontology, structural geology, areal geology, and myriad other subjects by Dana, Hitchcock, the Rogers brothers, Hall, Silliman, Jr., and many other notables. ***Condition: This is a Good copy in the original printed paper wraps, retaining parts of the original paper backstrip. The wraps are sound but chipped at the corners; sewing and binding tender but holding. Except for light offsetting, the text pages are fresh, clean and bright. Old stamp and library numbers on the front wrap, title page, and first page of text, but otherwise unmarked. This is a useful, complete copy of a scarce report. I could not find any copies online. Hazen 8903. Ward and Carozzi 1900. Not in BMNH. International shipping will be extra, but only at my cost. Bookseller Inventory # OG5128
