Contemporary tan calf, flat spine with gilt title on brown leather, number and decorative floral design. Gilt fillets at edge of covers. An important work. Written as a series of 65 letters detailing the author's theory of education. Woodcut tail-pieces follow almost all letters. A mixed set, with the first volume from the first printing, A Paris (1882), and the second and third volumes from the 1885 Neuchatel printing. 12mo, 396, 344 + 368 pp. First volume bound in tan paper boards, second and third volumes in 1/4 leather over speckled paper, spine in six compartments. All three volumes 12mo and uniformly sized. A nice set, with very good contents, light shelfwear to boards and a bookplate on the front pastedown of volume one, some fraying to paper at spine on volume one as well.
