About this title

Synopsis:

A history of America's most remarkable small craft. Sought after by collectors today, this feather-light "double-ender" is unique to the Adirondacks and is admiredby wooden boat enthusiasts everywhere. With plans and commentary by John Gardner, Curator, Mystic Seaport Museum. Illustrated. 4th printing, 1999.

About the Author:

Kenneth Durant (1889 1972) began spending summers in the Adirondacks as a child. A journalist, he opened and managed the American bureau of the Soviet news agency TASS for two decades and, after retirement, pursued his interest in the background of the guide-boat. His third wife, Helen van Dongen Durant (1909 2006), an internationally recognized documentary cinematographer, completed the book after Durant's death.

Store Description

The Reader's Corner is such fun,it's too bad you have to buy our books on line. We have eight foot tall outside bookshelves across the entire front of the store. There is a money slot in the door for night sales, which go to support National Public Radio. Inside, which can be too crowded at times, are surprisingly good books, only 1% are ever listed on-line. We also sell records, music cd's, comic books, mags, computer software and games. Best of all is the found art decorating every spare spot. The motto on the front door: NO SHOOTING, NO SMOKING, NO MOONING THE MANAGEMENT.
