About this Item

Not price clipped; original $10.95 price showing Based on the American Greeting Corp. character, Holly Hobbie in this literary incarnation is a ghost who lives in an 1803 painting, but emerges from the painting to help a descendant, Liz Dutton, find her missing father, an archaeologist who has vanished in Guatemala. This copy is inscribed & signed in pen to the "Acknowledgments" page by Liz Dubelman, credited there for "reference and research photography." The fact that this copy has obviously been in the hands of the Dubelman family, then, adds interest to the main dramatic blue ink signature to reverse of FFE, "Best Wishes -- / Holly Hobbie." Whether this is the signature of Denise Holly Ulinska, born 1944, who developed the character of the girl in the long bonnet as a contract illustrator for American Greetings, or whether this larger and quite exuberant signature was penned by author Richard Dubelman or some third party, we do not know. Reduced from $40. Bookseller Inventory # 001772
