First American edition - no. 139:2 in the Wagner and Camp bibliography. Publisher's original red cloth binding with gilt lettering and embossed design on spine. Some rubbing, foxing throughout. 312 pages. George Frederick Ruxton (1821-1848) was a British soldier, explorer and travel writer. In 1846, he traveled to Mexico to observe the Mexican-American War, then traveled north along the Rocky Mountains through present-day New Mexico and Colorado.
