First Edition, First Printing. Limited Edition of 400 copies. This is the printer's copy, signed, "John from Leonard" beneath the colophon. Cover boards are clean with spine label. Printed on Arches paper, in Palatino type - in red and black ink - on Fabriano paper, by pressman Harold McGrath and bound by Robert Burlen of Boston in green Fabriano over board. Bewick's original blocks for his edition of Aesop's Fables, lent by Philip Hofer, were used to print the illustrations - 24 wood engravings. Un-paginated. The John, for whom this book was inscribed, may be John E. Benson, who did the lettering of "Aesopic" on the title page. Bookseller Inventory #
