"In the following pages are collected together several histories of the dreadful cruelties exercised by the Indians on persons so unfortunate as to fall into their hands. All the instances are authenticated in the most satisfactory manner; some by deposition, and others by the information of persons of unexceptionable credibility"--Preface. The graphic frontispiece engraved by Peter Maverick after S. Folwell shows Manheim's 16-year-old twin daughters being burned alive as their Canasdaga captors dance round them.".
