About this title

Synopsis:

Zimbabwean-born Kim Donaldson grew up on a 150,000-acre ranch of unspoiled African bush country, traversed by rivers, hills and valleys, and teeming with game. It is this landscape, Kim soon swapped his hunting rifle for a camera and a sketchpad and began to create some of the breathtaking images that are contained within this volume. Reflecting the author's lifelong passion for the wildlife of his native country, these paintings and sketches have an intangible quality of atmosphere that can only be achieved by those who have spent many years in the bush. Crammed with information about wildlife, culture and history, the journal uses photographs, sketches, maps and excerpts from the author's notebooks and diaries to create a multi-layered impression of this beautiful continent.

About the Author:

Kim Donaldson experimented with painting, drawing and sculpting from an early age, finally becoming a full-time artist in 1978. Since this time. Kim has made enormous progress in his work and is today regarded as one of the world's leading wildlife artists. Over the last 20 years, he has had 24 one-man exhibitions and has also participated in 28 group exhibitions in Britain, America and Southern Africa. His work has been published in four books of wildlife art, as well as numerous limited edition prints. Africa: an Artist's Journal will be launched alongside a solo exhibition at the Halcyon Gallery.
