Spine of d/j mostly deteriorated, front and rear panels and both flaps intact, with some light chipping; else a very good copy. Presentation inscription from the author on the front free endpaper. An examination of the importance of European colonies in Africa during the settlement of World War I, and the impact of this settlement on America. He argues that African-Americans may play a major role in the post-war development of Africa and should be given training suitable to this end. Benjamin Griffith Brawley (1882-1939) was an important African American historian, critic, and poet. His numerous other works include The Negro in Literature and Art (1910), A Short History of the American Negro (1913), and Social history of the American Negro (1921). Not in Work.
