About this title

Synopsis:

This Book presents a holistic understanding and explanation of how African cultural knowledge promotes behavior and interprets the experiences of the ordinary African person from birth to death and beyond. It also demonstrates that this shared cultural knowledge is the fundamental source of the cosmic and spiritual unity of more than half a billion African people.

About the Author:

Rev. Prof. Michael C. Kirwen, M.M., has been a resident of East Africa for over 54 years, combining pastoral work among the Luo people with writing, field research and teaching. He holds a Ph.D. in special interdisciplinary studies in Theology and Anthropology from the Institute of Christian Thought, University of St. Michael s College, Toronto, Canada and holds an honorary doctorate in Educational Leadership from St. Mary s University, Winona, MN. In 1989 he founded the Maryknoll Institute of African Studies (MIAS), a graduate Institute affiliated with Tangaza College, Nairobi Kenya where he has served as Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies, and Director and Dean of Studies. The Institute was established to transform its students whether Africans, foreign residents or foreign students, into Africanists. MIAS offers Certificates and Diplomas in African studies. His books include The Missionary and the Diviner (Orbis Books, 1987),African Cultural Knowledge: Themes and Embedded Beliefs (MIAS Books, Nairobi Kenya 2005), African Cultural Domains: Life Cycle of an Individual (MIAS Books, 2008), African Cultural Domains: Cycle of Family and Interpersonal Relationships (MIAS Books, 2010).
