About this title

Synopsis:

From a journey through the amazing Upside-Down City of Gollarondo to an audience with the planet Smoo’s most sought-after giant, AKIKO VOLUME FIVE continues Mark Crilley’s tradition of transporting readers to lands both magical and menacing. The quest for BORNSTONE’S ELIXIR reunites Akiko and the gang with Prince Froptoppit for an adventure that is quite literally a matter of life or death. Don’t miss this latest installment in the comic book sensation that has garnered more than a dozen Eisner Award nominations since 1996 and is the basis for the popular series of novels from Random House Children’s Books.

About the Author:

Mark Crilley was raised in Detroit, Michigan, where his parents allowed him to indulge his habit of telling tall tales from a very early age. After graduating from Kalamazoo College in 1988, he traveled to Taiwan and Japan, where he taught English to students of all ages for nearly five years. It was during his stay in Japan in 1992 that he created the story of Akiko and her journey to Smoo. First published by Sirius Entertainment as a comic book in 1995, the bi-monthly AKIKO series has since earned Mark over a dozen Eisner Award nominations, as well as a spot on Entertainment Weekly’s “100 Most Creative People in Entertainment” list in 1998. Several hardcover and softcover AKIKO novelizations from Random House Children’s Books are available in bookstores (written and illustrated by Crilley). He currently lives with his wife, Miki, and their son in Royal Oak, Michigan, just a few miles from the streets where he was raised.
