About this Item

The Renaissance man of science, unlike physicists of today, conceived value of his work to lie in its applicability to all phases of human activity. This book exemplifies the spirit and the letter of those beliefs. This is an extensive and classic refernce that carefully examines every process concerned with the raising of and use of chickens. Although he wrote in 1598, he discusses as common knowledge such 20th-century concepts as artificial stimulation of egg production, culling, and flock behavior. He traces reproduction in great detail from the competition of sperm in the oviduct to the position of the developed chick. He also directs himself particularly to the chicken's beneficial effects on human life. He even lists remedies concoted from chickens for many diseases. 447 pages including index. Illustrations. Dust jacket has some wear along upper edge and some fading to spine. Book has a very, very tiny bump to upper front corner tip. Lovely copy. Bookseller Inventory # 009970
