Light wear to extremities with minor scuffing to corners and edges. Spine slightly slanted. Minor creasing along spine with lovely gilt tooling. Gilt remains bright. A pretty little American binding. Light toning throughout with occasional age-spots and foxing. Some finger soiling the margins. Dampness staining to the center of the gutters. Binding tight and intact. Free of known markings. Please see photos. Unusual Sandborton, New Hampshire imprint. “Alonzo and Melissa is an example of early American Gothic, appearing first in serialized form in 1804. The Revolutionary War is the big star of this show. While it is an active element that provides the rationale for a lot of action in this story, it's also reflected within the context of the domestic drama that's occurring as well.
