About this Item

This circa 1820 Bible was the Family Bible of Alvan Bolster of Hebron and Rumford, Maine, and of his wife Cynthia (Wheeler) Bolster, born in Concord NH. The Bible is not dated, but appears to be from around 1820. Measures about 8-1/2 by 10-1/2 inches, and is in full, worn calf, with the front cover detached, and the spine's calf being peeled. The first 32 pages, and the 4 pages of the Family Record are detached with edge-chipping. The 4 pages of the Family Record have 3 pages filled-in, and one page blank. The information includes 10 birth records, 8 marriage records, and 7 death records. An additional page of family records relating to Cynthia's family of the Wheelers, have been recorded onto the back of the next illustration. The birth records include Alvan Bolster on 12/7/1795 and Cynthia Wheeler Bolster on 1/29/1802. The births of their 8 children are recorded with the dates between 1821 and 1841: Jenette (or Janette) Wheeler Bolster; William Wheeler Bolster; John Quincy Adams Bolster; Martha Virgin Bolster; Mary Josephine Bolster; Cynthia Maria Bolster; Sarah Virgin Worcester Bolster; and Alvan Augustine Bolster, who were all born in Rumford, Maine. Marriages: Alvan Bolster to Cynthia Wheeler on 1/4/1821 in Rumford; Their childrens' marriages: Hiram Ricker to Janette W. Bolster on 5/28/1846 in Thompson, Ct.; William Wheeler Bolster to Martha Hall Adams on 10/26/1848, and his second marriage to Florence Josephine Reed on 8/17/1868 in Mexico, Maine; John Q. A. Stockbridge to Sarah Virgin Worcester Bolster (no date given). The page of Wheeler Family Records was sent in a letter from a Wheeler relative, with the original letter being bound into another Bolster family bible. Cynthia Wheeler Bolster was one of 12 children by William Wheeler, born 7/5/1782 and his wife Polly Virgin, born 3/21/1783.
