About this Item

287 p. Gray cloth over boards. Green cover titles, decoration. Fiction set in the Berkshire communities of Western Massachusetts, early 20th century. "A Non-Skippable Prologue", Chapter I, (spelled Non-Skipable in title and across top, right-hand pages through page 21) offers background: "Osmun Vail doesn't come into this story at all. Yet he was responsible for everything that happened in it". He had left the Berkshires as a near penniless young man, and returned a millionaire in retirement to reclaim the farmland his father had lost, to build a mansion without hiring local labor, to raise a nephew and share his land with the one man who had shown him kindness. The rest is the tale of the next generation and promises to be carried forward. Excellent reading copy; text is bright, well-spaced. Very good quality 1920s materials. Collectible author' Good. No dust jacket. Top center front, half-inch red spill spot. Top page block: light damp stain to inside text border, not into text, leaving minor paper ripple. Light edge wear. On copyright page: "The Amateur Inn. II". List: 4th of 6 titles. Bookseller Inventory # Alibris.F0230005520

Store Description

Hi, Folks ... Mom said, 'I need to downsize'. Moving to assisted living, what she couldn't take included 8,000-plus books & records. A decade later, my upcountry barn is bursting. Books multiply as others recycle priorities. I now have 30,000 or more books (not yet all online) looking for good homes, and my learning curve has been a roller coaster. I celebrate word-crafters, thought-tumblers, laughter ... the arts of communication at every turn. I preserve, protect, and share. I am also Hedgehog Publishing, 'Words & Pictures by & for Folks with Prickly Backs, Soft Bellies, & Small Brains'.
