Oscar Wilde loved Meinhold's Gothic novel and literary hoax originally written in 1839. This edition translated by Lady Duff Gordon and edited with an introduction by Joseph Jacobs was published in London by David Nutt in the Strand. Gold/gilt decoration to the front board and five full page engravings by Philip Burne-Jones, with tisuue paper intact. Spine wit wear at the to and bottom as well as darkening. Some soiling to the covers but front illustration and title are still very much visible. Contents are clean without any marks and only some peripheral darkening to the pages.
