Interior very good condition, exterior boards in fair condition. These are ex-library copies with minimal stamps and envelopes on the interior. They all have a Discard stamp and Butte Free Public Library on the title page, library number on the spine, and remnants of envelopes inside the front cover. Otherwise interiors are clean and bright. Pages are rough cut. The first volume (Slaveholder and Secessionist) was printed in 1915. Heavy wear to board edges and spine ends, with the bottom of the spine torn and frayed. Front board is starting to detach. Second volume (Participant in the Civil War) was printed in 1919, slight beginning of a hinge crack to front hinge. Heavy wear to board edges, corners and spine ends. Third volume (Under Reconstruction) was printed in 1925. Hinges cracking, heavy edgewear to boards, beginning of a tear along the back edge of spine towards the bottom. All 3 volumes have rubbing on boards, spines are faded, but gilt lettering still visible. Ms. Abel, Ph.D., was Professor of History at Smith College.
