Besides describing laying out gardens, bulbs, perennials, annuals, roses, jasmines, evergreens, shrubs, window gardening, domestic greenhouses, the author provides good lists of varieties to grow under various conditions. The full title of the second work is The American Rose Culturist; Being and Practical Treatise on the Propagation, Cultivation, and Management of the Rose in all Seasons, with a list of Choice & Approved Varieties, Adapted to the Climate of the United States, to which are added full Directions for the Treatment of the Dahlia., and edited by C. M. Saxton. Stock 2614. A popular work which was reprinted many times until 1885. Hedrick mentions only the 1856 printing, this copy being published in 1855.
