About this Item

This is a large poster advertising the showing of a motion picture taken of a "Gigantic All American Patriotic Parade and Convention" sponsored by the America First Association in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota, Nov. 16-17, presumably 1917. The association was a sort of vigilante organization dedicated to guarding against treason, and especially to identifying "Unamerican" activities during World War I. It was aimed largely at non-English speakers and U.S. residents of German heritage. The poster boasts that every Minnesota county is represented. Posters like this apparently were posted around the state at venues where the movie was shown. The poster is 28 1/2" wide x 42" high, red on cream, with a decorative red border and a small union logo at the bottom. It is in quite good condition with some creases, short splits, and two or three very small holes; a museum stamp and the name of the donor are on the back. The poster has been encased in inert, acid-free mylar to protect it. It is too large and difficult to photograph in order to post an image here, but the full price except postage will be refunded if the buyer is not satisfied. Because of the size of the poster and because it will have to be mailed in a long tube, extra postage will be required; no foreign shipping.
