About this Item
Octavo size, 29 pp. plus one map. A somewhat scarce promotional brochure published in 1905 by the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce extolling the many virtues of the City. Opening with a short "History of Anaheim" the brochure quickly moves into the many advantages the city offers: the walnut and fruit groves, the stately homes, the climate, the schools, etc. Profusely illustrated with five full-page (one page with two plates) and twenty-one in-text half-tone illustrations and one map, this slim volume provides a fascinating glimpse into the Anaheim of 115 years ago, before "progress" and Walt Disney changed it forever. As of this writing we see only a single copy online and our search of OCLC locates only four copies; not listed in Rocq. ___DESCRIPTION: Staple-bound with brown heavy paper wraps, embossed black lettering on the front wrap, title page with a styled "T" inset and with all lettering surrounded by a thin ruled border, the volume opens with one of the full-page halftones captioned "Looking East on Center Street" (showing horse-drawn carriages and an unpaved street), a total of twenty-seven different plates and one "Map of Orange County California, Made By S.H. Finley, Co. Surv."; octavo size (9 3/16" by 6 1/8"), pagination: [1-4] 5-29 [map]. ___CONDITION: Overall a bit better than good; we had a professional (name available upon request) restore the wraps and binding (the old staples had rusted through, it now has new staples and a spine repair), thus the wraps are now securly fastened, the front wrap with only a few spots of light soil, however, the back wrap with heavy soil and some minor chipping at the bottom edge, the interior with some overall light soil and wear, several pages with creasing or loss at the top fore-edge corners (of only a few millimeters), per the pagination in OCLC the volume is complete, however, there appears to have been a page (blank, per the digital copy) now missing. ___CITATION: OCLC no. 18964072. ___POSTAGE: International customers, please note that additional postage may apply as the standard does not always cover costs; please inquire for details. ___Swan's Fine Books is pleased to be a member of the ABAA, ILAB, and IOBA and we stand behind every book we sell.
