About this title

Synopsis:

Dust Jacket in Very Good condition.

From Library Journal:

Levinson died in 1933 at the age of 46, having authored over 800 pieces (books, articles, reviews, prefaces, etc.) on literature, art, film, and his special passion, dance. In his native Russia and adopted homeland France, Levinson was regarded as an erudite and original thinker who championed formal values. From 1924 to 1930, as Europe's foremost dance critic, he contributed 13 essays to the New York magazine Theatre Arts Monthly . Collected here are "Stravinsky and the Dance," "The Negro Dance," "Javanese Dancing," and "The Spirit of the Classic Dance." Acocella and Garafola have contributed a useful introduction as well as a near complete bibliography of Levinson's writings. These essays will call attention to a seminal figure unknown to many dance lovers. A basic purchase for dance collections.
