About this Item

second edition, so stated; from the library of the anthropologist, William H. Gilbert, with his signature on the front free endpaper and a very few marks in the margins as on pp. 141 and 243, top edge foxed, bottom of spine and corners slightly bumped, otherwise little sunning or edgewear, clean, square, and tight, rated VG+; there is no dj as such but a light blue paper sleeve has been fit over the back cover by the publisher explaining the contents of the book and the distinguished credentials of its author; it appears that the second edition is simply a reprint of the first; the author was still alive in 1968 and was able to write a preface to the new edition; bound in dark blue cloth with gold lettering on the front and spine, a gold-embossed small human figure on the front; 8 7/8 inches high, xvii + 499 numbered pages. Store Description

Triple G Books is owned and operated by an emeritus professor of linguistics, who was also an ardent book collector over the period 1954 to 2007. Books for sale range from linguistics, pidgin & creole languages, sociolinguistics, anthropology, education, and comparative religion through modern first editions and German and Scandinavian books. A number of the books are valuable and hard to find, as for example a 1/2-leather-bound first edition of Alfred Russell Wallace's The Malay Archipelago (2 vols.), recently sold for presentation to the Mayor of London on his visit to Malaysia, and a first edition of H. G. Wells' The Time Machine, a novel of the 19th century pointing to a scary future, a continuing revelation to me. Triple G Books stands back of its books in every way.
