About this title

This book is about Los Angeles, the City of Angels, forever a Place of Possibilities. For anyone who is "seduced" by illustrated history books, as author Lynn C. Kronzek has always been, this book serves as a lure into the city's diverse and fascinating history. Abandoninig the chronological approach most coffee-table style histories take, Kronzek has chosen three distinct ways to introduce the reader to Los Angeles: illustrations, chapter opening vignettes; and narrative text. Though strongly connected, each of these can be savored individually, allowing the reader to read and browse at leisure. It is the author's hope that this book, through its compelling tet and evocative artwork, will initiate questions and explorations of Los Angeles - and that readers will be excited by the artists' interepretations of the city, just as the city has long inspried artists. Kronzek perceives in Los Angeles a city that provides an opportunity to find personal fulfillment on a grand, urban scale and to examine the past so that clear possibilities for the future will emerge. Los Angeles truly is a place of possibilities, and this book travels there.

About the Author:

Author Lynn C. Kronzek successfully-and creatively-convey the past to a variety of audiences: the general public, historians, environmental planners, and students. She served as senior editor in the history books division of a national publishing firm, where over half her titles were reprinted. Kronzek's writing focuses on culture and the urban environment. Her first history book, Fairfax...A Home, A Community, A Way of Life (Jewish Historical Society of Southern California: 1990) won a Special Award from the Los Angeles Conservancy and a National Jewish Book Award nomination. A historical resources assessment of Old Chinatown, originally done for Metro Rail, recently was released as a chapter in a work published by the UCLA Institute of Archaeology. Kronzek is the auhtor of numerous articles, from a monograph on the Reagan Administration's regulatory policies to a shorter piece on cultural awareness and philanthropy. She also is principal of Lynn C. Kronzek & Associates, a professional services firm which guides nonprofit and government agencies in their strategic planning, program development and fundraising activities. Now celebrating its tenth anniversary, her company conceived and inaugurated an early prototype for what became the federal One-Stop Career Center model, and was one of the first in the nation to successfully apply the defense conversion process to the needs of low-income families. Kronzek has served on the faculty of the MBA in the Nonprofit Management Program at the University of Judaism, teaching regional development and community relations. Lynn Kronzek holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan and a master's from George Washington University. Respectful of the past and challenged by the future, she currently is on the boards of the Jewish Historical Society of Southern California and the Government, Business and Education Tech Expo. Kronzek lives with her husband and son in Los Angeles.
