Book Description Franciscan Fathers, 1932. Hardcover. Condition: Fine. First Edition. Signed Lemont, 1932. 8vo, publisher's burgundy cloth, 104 pp. Inscribed by Gregorich in 1957 "to George." An uncommon first edition copy of this biography of Frederic Baraga. A near fine copy with some rubbing to extremities of boards and fine contents. "Baraga's journeys and feats of endurance in the wild, sparsely populated territory of Upper Michigan were the stuff of legend. He learned to travel like the American Indians, eating and sleeping as little as possible, and he often walked forty miles a day on snowshoes. He abjured the use of liquor and did not eat meat. Baraga suffered a crippling stroke in 1866 during the Second Plenary Council of Baltimore. He returned to Marquette, where he died." - ANB. Seller Inventory # 17463
