Quarto. , -1132pp. Original printed wrappers, with publisher's logo on front cover and title page. This is the second volume of Shlomo Simonsohn's monumental undertaking which relates the history of papal Jewry policy in the late Middle Ages and Renaissance from the days of Gelasius I to those of Julius III. It contains letters issued by eleven popes: Benedict XIII, Innocent VII, Gregory XII, Alexander V, John XXIII, Martin V, Eugenius IV, Felix V, Nicholas V, Calixtus III, and Pius II. The letters in this volume illustrate the dual role of the papacy, both protecting and limiting the privileges of the Jews. Each letter is in its original language - Latin - but is preceded by an explanatory text in English. Some moderate sunning to wrappers. Lower corners bumped, thus slightly affecting pages throughout. Wraps in overall good, interior in good to good+ condition. Bookseller Inventory #
