About this title

A book about T. B. Maston is no simple project. Eighty years of life are difficult to compress into a few pages. A brilliant career as an ethicist, teacher, and writer can hardly be done justice in one book. A man whose life has literally touched millions cannot be pared down to fit neatly into a single volume. Because T. B. Maston's life has been long and productive and because he has influenced many, it was felt that no one person could adequately summarize his life and teachings. Literally hundreds of persons could have contributed to this book-friends, former students, colleagues, editors, scholars and Christian leaders from many parts of the world. After exploring several different possibilities it was finally determined to have the book written by some of those who majored in Christian ethics under T. B. Maston while working toward their doctor's degree. The roll call of authors includes pastors, missionaries. Denominational executives, seminary presidents, and college and seminary professors. The variety of persons who have written this book is symbolic of the wide influence Maston has had and the diversity of his areas of interest. The book is divided into three sections. The first is a brief overview of the life of T. B. Maston. The second contains a series of statements about the varied and numerous contributions of his life. He has made an impact not only by what he has written and taught but also by the way he has lived. The third section is made up of chapters summarizing his thought on various subjects. None is a complete statement of Maston's thought on the subject considered but rather each is a guidepost to further study.
