Book Description Melbourne University Press, 1947., 1947. Hard cover dust wrapper, xxii/181pp, foldout map at rear, b&w plates. Dust wrapper chipped and worn with faded spine and 2cm tear running up from base of rear dw spine fold; now protected. Board edges worn and corners of same mildly bumped. A good copy of a rare piece in original printing. "The three papers in this volume were all written in the year 1934. 'Tjurunga-Ownership' describes how the sacred traditions of the Aranda have been handed down through the centuries; 'Three Aranda Sub-Groups' points out some of the differences in customs and speech; 'Northern Aranda Myths' gives a brief outline of the legends of one of these Aranda sub-groups". Many of the legends and much of the information contained in these three studies were obtained from old aboriginal informants under a promise of secrecy during their lifetime, and Strehlow held off publishing the papers until after their deaths. He dedicated the book to their memory. Bookseller Inventory # 162267
