American diplomat Charles Francis Adams (1807-1886) was the son of President John Quincy Adams and the grandson of President John Adams. During the Civil War he served as American ambassador to Great Britain, where he was successful in keeping that country neutral during the war. He also served as the American arbitrator on the 1871-72 international commission that met in Geneva to settle the claims relating to the "Alabama." Scarce. In Very Good+ Condition:unevenly trimmed along left marginj; small chip out of lower edge; loss at lower right-hand corner (neither impacting image or printing); clean and bright.
