This volume also had contributions by Miss Leigh, Viscount Dillon, Major C. Hawkins Fisher, Rev. Eyre W. Hussey, Rev. W. K. R. Bedford, J. Balfour Paul and L. W. Maxson. . Green leather spine and fore-edges are tanned, former owner's decorative bookplate on front pastedown, light foxing on edges, pages 455-503 have been heavily chipped on the fore-edge not affecting the text at all, else pristine, unmarked, tight, square and clean. Illustrated with numerous full page engraved plates plus smaller text illustrations, includes photographs, engravings, drawings and diagrams etc with two maps at the end of the book one of which folds out.5.5 X 7.5 inches. The leather shoulder on the front board is stamped "Vancroft Farm" in gilt. and the original owner's name stamp is across the top of the fly leaf, also again across a page within the book.There are some very few scuffs and rubbing here and there to the leather.Very good, and very clean throughout, with a very sound and solid binding. Twenty-fourth vol. in the Badminton Library, edited by the Duke of Beaufort assisted by Alfred E.T. Watson. Three-quarter vellum binding with green patterned paper boards with matching endpapers, ruled in gilt, titles on spine boxed in brown with decorations in gilt, top edge gilt. Profusely illustrated with drawings, plates and some photogaphs, 534 pages, colored folding map bound in a rear. This copy bears the bookplates of Thos. Ayscough Hodgkinson a member of the Royal Society of Arts and J.R. McMicking who formed the first venture capital firm in California and funded the development of Ampex Corporation. In addition tipped in is the ex-libris of the Pacific-Union Club of San Francisco a private social club with some very prominent members, it was founded in 1889 and is still in operation today.
