Book Description Longmans, Green & Co. Ltd., London, 1929. Decorative Cloth with Slipcase. Condition: Very Good. H. Wethered and T. Simpson (illustrator). First Edition.. 206 pages, over 50 illustrations in black & white, sepia and multi-color, Preface by J.C. Squire. One of the most desireable books not only in the library of golf architecture but of all golf literature. A fitting conclusion to the 1920s, the golden age of golf architecture and it's books, beginning with Colt's Some Essays on Golf Course Architecture and MacKenzie's Golf Architecture in 1920, Hunter's The Links (1926), and Thomas' Golf Architecture in America (1927). H. N. Wethered was the father of the best brother and sister golf team ever in Roger and Joyce, both Champions in their own right. Tom Simpson gave up the practice of law for course design first working with Herbert Fowler, later J. F Abercromby, Philip Mackenzie Ross, and Molly Gourlay. In all he designed , remodeled or expanded over 50 courses all over the world, many on the Continent: Royal Aberdeen, Cruden Bay, Sunningdale New, The Berkshire, Royal Lytham and St. Anne's, Rye, Ballybunion, Luftness New, etc. The illustrations, many of them full page, are beautifully rendered. Simpson illustrated his works with ink sketches with color washes. An unusually nice copy, the gilt cover illustration is 100% complete and the white cloth covers have only the slightest hand soiling and two small ink stains on the rear. Former owner's name neatly written top ffep. All original with completely clean and crisp interior pages; a most desireable copy. Fitting to its condition, this volume is enclosed in a custom-made clamshell box in full tan cloth, marbled interior lining, and leather spine label with gilt stamping in fine condition. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Seller Inventory # 000800
