Archive of 8 issues of pulp magazine" Adventure" which became a war magazine during the 1940s and circulated widely to soldiers and civilians during WWII. Features prominent authors in the genre such as W.C. Tuttle, Jim Fjaalgard, Kenneth Perkins, and others. Most of the short stories inside were tales of the exploits of brave and gritty American troops, the stories of bravery among soldiers came with colorfully emotive illustrations. Most magazine have about 128 pages filled with war stories and colorful sensational cover art. Covers often have the most prominent stories featured as a quasi-title at the top of the page. Such titles include: "Attack on America!", "Murder in Martinique", and "They Can be Licked!" with the caption "George Surdez proves it in this smashing story of how the legion blasted the nazis out of Narvik." The 8 issues include: July 1939, April 1939, Jan. 1940, Dec. 1940, Feb. 1941, March 1941, Oct. 1941, Dec. 1941. The cover of October 1941 shows a team of paratroopers falling from the sky. January 1940 showcases an Allied tank in action against Axis forces. The cover story is based on a true event where run down British tanks were lined up in a German canal to create a secret ambush against nazi forces. In general, the covers are over the top depiction's of tough-as-nails American troops in the heat of battle. Almost every magazine cover contained a cover that depicts a soldier fighting fiercely or performing a heroic act. This was to attract the attention of an average G.I. during World War II. These wonderfully flashy cover illustrations regularly featured American GI wounded, or under fire, but still performing heroic acts against Nazi barbarians A few years after the war, the 1954 Comics Code banned violent or sexual images in comics and pulp, which killed off many pulp war magazines and comics. Most the titles in this archive are in very good condition, some are chipping along spine and margins, but all covers still holding and all interiors clean. Overall, in very good condition.
