Arctic Explorations: In Search of Sir John Franklin

This 6.50 x 9.00, 766 page book is a leather-bound volume showing considerable age wear to the covers but it appears that some professional restoration strengthened the covers and the book now is firm with the cover boards secure and solid. The four corners are worn through the leather and there is scuffing to the boards. The spine has several raised bands that appear to be tight. The paper label on the spine is about two-thirds missing as shown by the picture. Overall the covers ands binding are presently secure and tight. The interior of the book shows an inked presentation inscription on the ffep and an inked personal signature on the title page with the date 1874. This volume seemingly has two title pages, one showing R.W. Bliss and Company, Hartford 1868 and the second showing the title and extended information on the book with the R.W. Bliss and Company Newark NJ, 1869. There is only the slightest touch of foxing. Most of true pages showing none at all. The book has several hundred illustrations, most of a smaller size but numerous full-page woodcuts, protected with tissue guards. All in all the book is a fabulous story of early planet exploration and the incredible account of the stranding in the Arctic by the expedition. 766 pages.…
