Elisha Kent Kane (1820-1857) was a Medical Officer in the United States Navy, and was Senior Medical Officer for the First Grinnell Arctic Expedition to find Sir John Franklin's lost expedition, last seen in 1845. He was the leader of the Second Grinnell Expedition of 1853-1855. Although this expedition failed to find the lost expedition, it did push further North than any other expedition up to that date. The expedition ended when the crew had to abandon their icebound ship and walk to Greenland. This is a detailed and complete account of the expedition. Bookseller Inventory # 016211
